We have used the Rasch model extensively since 1970 to calibrate items for a wide variety of cognitive tests. In the past few years we have done this work with Linacre and Wright's BIGSTEPS program for this purpose. Here are three references that describe our applications of the Rasch model:
1) Chapter 6 in Woodcock, R. W. (1978). Development and Standardization of the Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery. Itasca, IL: Riverside Publishing.
2) Chapter 3 in McGrew, K. S., Werder, J. K., & Woodcock, R. W. (1991). WJ-R Technical Manual: A Reference on Theory and Current Research. Itasca, IL: Riverside Publishing.
3) Chapter 6, entitled "What Can Rasch-Based Scores Convey About a Person's Test Performance?" to appear in Embretson, S. & Hershberger, S. (Eds.) (in press). The New Rules of Measurement: What Every Psychologist and Educator Should Know. Mahwah, NJ: Erlbaum.
